“₹35 lakh for deceased, ₹15 lakh for injured” announced after Vedanta plant blast in Chhattisgarh

A deadly boiler explosion at a Vedanta Limited power plant in Sakti district of Chhattisgarh has claimed at least 14 lives, with several others injured, prompting widespread grief and compensation announcements for victims’ families. The incident occurred around 2 PM following a suspected tube rupture inside the boiler system at the facility located in the Singhi Tarai area.

According to officials, the blast triggered chaos at the plant as workers attempted to escape the intense explosion. Emergency response teams rushed to the site immediately, shifting the injured to hospitals in Raigarh and nearby districts. Authorities confirmed that around 20 injured workers are currently undergoing treatment, with at least five in critical condition.

Sakti Superintendent of Police Praful Thakur stated that the explosion originated in the boiler tubes, although the exact cause is still under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest a technical failure, but officials have ruled out any immediate possibility of workers being trapped after thorough site inspections.

Sakti Collector Amrit Vikas Toppo announced that the administration and company management will provide compensation of ₹35 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and ₹15 lakh to the injured. He also confirmed that all medical expenses of the injured workers will be fully covered by the plant management as relief and rehabilitation efforts continue.

High-level leaders, including the President of India, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, while national authorities have assured support for affected families. A detailed investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the explosion and ensure accountability, as rescue and monitoring operations remain ongoing at the site.
